A Dimensional Data Model really is a thing of beauty. In its narrowest sense, it is about creating simplified data models for reporting and analytics. In a broader context, it also includes things like data profiling and source to target mapping. In large organizations, data modeling is an early step in the software development lifecycle. It comes with many challenges, including being perceived as a 'bottleneck'.

Dave Schlinker is DAMA CDMP certified. He has been involved in Data Warehousing for many years and in various roles including Program Manager, Data Architect, Data Governance Architect and Data Modeler. Dave has been at Suncor Energy since 2021 and has played a key role in defining the data modeling process within a larger, agile based software development lifecycle. His favorite way to relax is through fused glass artwork.
Matt Dawe spent the first part of his career working in manufacturing operations where he spent a significant amount of time configuring ERP systems and developing business reports. Since joining Suncor Energy in 2011, Matt has worked with SAP master data management and configuration, data governance, and for the last eight years has been centrally involved in building the data modeling practice.
